2013 is a Big Year for the JLA!

As we previously reported, Geoff Johns and David Finch are launching "Justice League of America" early next year. If you collect all of DC's variant covers, you may want to think again; DC has announced that when JLA launches, so will 52 variants (one for each state, along with Washington DC and Puerto Rico). Need another reason to get excited about the JLA? Two of its members, Katana and Vibe, will be getting solo series! "Vibe" will be written by Andrew Kreisberg with art by Pete Woods, while "Katana" will pair Ann Nocenti and artist Alex Sanchez. A third JLA member, Green Arrow, will be seeing big changes in the future. Starting at #17, "Green Arrow" will have a brand new creative team: Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino!

Are DC's Supernatural Characters Getting Their Own Film?

Guillermo del Toro, well known to comic fans as the director responsible for the big screen Hellboy, is apparently in negotiations to helm a movie based on many of DC's dark characters. Latino-Review have recently spread the rumor that the director is in talks with Warner Brothers to create "Heaven Sent", a film that would team Swamp Thing, Etrigan the Demon, Deadman, the Spectre, John Constantine, Phantom Stranger, Zatana, Zatara, and Sargon the Sorcerer. According to del Toro himself,  "I denied being involved in JLA but this I would love to do!!!"

If Warner Brothers ends up making the long-rumored JLA film first, I would be shocked if they didn't call this film Justice League Dark to line up with the New 52 and to capitalize on the (likely) success of the new franchise.

Announcing the Justice League of America

There was a big announcement today from Fan Expo Toronto! In 2013, Geoff Johns and David Finch are teaming up to create the Justice League of America!

DC's newest team will feature Vibe, Catwoman, Steve Trevor, Martian Manhunter, Katanna, Green Arrow, Green Lantern Baz, Stargirl, and Hawkman. The JLA will be an ARGUS sanctioned superhero team, but let's hope it fairs better than the United Nations' Justice League International...

San Diego Comic Con 2012

Hello to all you DC Comic book lovers out there! I haven't blogged for a while, but that's because there isn't much news that deserves a long post (I frequently put news links on Twitter and Facebook, which you can find at the very top of this page). Now down to business: It's very unfortunate that I could not go to SDCC. It would have been great for the group if I could have reported news instead of just showing you other sites' articles. But we will make do with what we have! Many people complain that DC didn't have any big announcements, but that's to be expected; DC often announces things on their blog, which makes sure the news doesn't get lost in all the Comic-Con craziness! But here's some small tidbits you may be interested in:

There will obviously be some mild spoilers for upcoming stories, but none are significantly huge
  • In 2013, Neil Gaiman will return to Sandman, with JH Williams III as the artist
  • The Justice League will be very different by issue 12; some members will leave, while new ones join. In related news:
  • Shazam (the hero formerly known as Captain Marvel) will be joining
  • Raven will soon have her first adventure with the New 52 Teen Titans
  • Crimson Fox will make her New 52 debut in Red Hood & the Outlaws
  • Fans got their first sneak-peak at next year's Man of Steel movie!
  • Tim Drake was never Robin; when he became a hero, he just skipped to the Red Robin identity
  • Stephanie Brown is being replaced by Barbara Gordon in Smallville Season 11
  • Amethyst, Frankenstein, and Tim Hunter are coming to Justice League Dark (expect a rotating roster of team members)

Our Scoop is Announced by DC

A mere 3 weeks ago, we created a post that read: "it was announced through August solicits that Justice League International #12 would apparently be the final issue of the series. While Aaron Lopresti has received much acclaim for his art on the pre-boot Wonder Woman and Generation Lost, JLI is his only current New 52 book. But don't worry about him going away anytime soon...Aaron has told me that he will be working on another DC book in the near future-it's just up to DC when they want to announce it!! So look for this (hopefully) soon!"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well now, DC has announced that this book is...
SWORD OF SORCERY – Writer: Christy Marx. Artist: Aaron Lopresti.
Featuring the return of Amethyst, Amy Winston leads a strange life on the road with her mother and resents it. She’s about to learn it’s all been necessary when she discovers she’s the lost princess of Gemworld—and she’s being hunted by her murderous aunt. With a back-up story written by Tony Bedard with art by Jesus Saiz, set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, the monstrous warrior Beowulf is charged with finding and defeating the evil Grendel.

Aaron posted this design for Amethyst on his Facebook page

Two (Minor) Scoops!

Through a conversation between myself and Dan Didio, I have learned that Young Justice is no longer part of the multiverse. You may recall that when the cartoon was announced, it was commonly referred to as Earth-16 in the DC Universe multiverse. Since the DC Comics reboot, Young Justice has become its own individual universe, and is no longer Earth-16.

Also, it was announced through August solicits that Justice League International #12 would apparently be the final issue of the series. So look for this (hopefully) soon!
